Project #2

Determining Personal Diet and Exercise

Use the following web sites to locate information on your personal health regarding the calories you burn during three average days and the calories you intake during those three days.   Do Not change your diet!

  1. Calculate the calories burned each day  http://www.caloriecontrol.org/

  1. Calculate Recommended Body Weight through Body Mass Index (BMI) http://www.caloriecontrol.org/

  1. Calculate how many calories you burn per day with your personal activity level http://www.stevenscreek.com/goodies/calories.shtml

  1. Calorie Counting http://www.caloriecount.com

Introduction:  Introduce and discuss your BMI and how you personally feel about it, (agree or disagree).  You will also make a hypothesis on your diet and your activity level.

Body:  You will keep an exact three-day food journal and activity journal.  You will keep track of all foods eaten and all activities participated in and how long (sleep, studying, etc.)

·        Calculate the number of calories you ate each day (make copies)

·        Calculate the number of calories you burned each day (make copies)

·        Compare each day’s activity with diet

·        What could you do to gain “healthy” weight

·        What could you do to lose “healthy” weight

Conclusion:  Discuss in detail what you have learned about calorie counting and your activity level.  What can you do to be healthier or get closer to your BMI weight?
