Math
Wall Activities |
 |
Our math wall
allows us to practice a lot of the math skills we are learning. The
following are our daily math wall activities:
-
CALENDAR:
We learn the days of the week, the months, the year, the numbers which
make up the date, and we learn left-to-right progression. We also
practice counting, recognizing and predicting patterns, and number
stories. The students take turns with calendar duty, and get to use
the microphone as they recite the date, and ask students to rise for
the pledge and patriotic song.
- WEATHER
WHEEL AND GRAPH:
The weather helper displays the correct weather on the weather wheel
and places a marker on the correct location on the weather graph.
- POCKET
CHART ACTIVITIES:
The students take turns reading the chart which contains the date, our
daily schedule, the name of the VIP and line leader, and also some
specific skills we are practicing.
- PLACE
VALUE CHART:
A stick is added to the ones pocket each day, and students learn to
bundle groups of 10 and move them to the tens pocket as needed. The
appropriate numeral is then added above the chart. This is a great way
to learn the meaning of place value!
- 100
NUMBER CHART:
We will be counting the days until we reach the 100th day of school,
and then we will have a special celebration.
- NUMBER
OF THE DAY:
We have a growing number line that represents each day of school. The
helper states the new number, and we then add it to the number line.
- COIN
CHART:
A penny is added to the coin chart each day. Students learn coin
values and how to add and exchange coins.
