Fest 2006 |

Thank you to everyone who participated
in
Earth Fest 2006.
We especially want to thank the presenters for their time,
and sharing their knowledge with the
Bradt Community.

Students
participated in the following Earth Fest 2006 events.
 |
Singer/Songwriter,
Skip West kicked off Earth Week with an all school assembly
of Environmental songs. |

 | Students
learned how to recycle cans, plastic bottles, and paper
through the Great Recycling Relay race. Students sorted
through trash and had to deposit it into the correct recycling
bin. |

 |
Students
observed “Earth through a Lens”. They
looked through microscopes, and magnifying glasses to see what is in
pond water, cat tails, seeds, tulips, bark, pine needles,
lemon skins, blades of grass, rocks, moss,
and other items from the earth.
Mohonasen High
School Students from the Environmental Studies class helped in
the explorations. |

Students
participated in learning how to find “Animal Tracks”. Students made their own animal tracks
out of play dough and made their own bear tracks. |

Officer Tom, Officer Andy,
and Sammy from the Albany Police Mounted Patrol Unit show
students from
Mrs. Palleschi and Mrs. Weinlein's class how Police Horses
"Serve and Protect" the community. |

 |
Students
explored butterflies native to our area through a slide
presentation presented by Erin Kinel of the Pine Bush
Conservatory. Students learned about the life cycle of a
butterfly, and how to safely catch a butterfly in a net. |

 |
Students
participated in an presentation by Dave Mosher from
Schenectady County Soil and Water called "Nature's
Treasure. Students
explored how they can turn their trash in to Nature’s
Treasure by the method of composting. |

 | Students
explored “Animals of the Rainforest” during a presentation
by Dean Davis. Students saw snakes, toads, and trees frogs,
and a lizards. They learned what these animals need to survive
in the wild, and the importance of zoos to the conservation of
wild animals. |
 | |
 | Carnivores
and Herbivores: Exploring how and animal's teeth adapt to the
ways they eat! Students saw the skulls of various animals and
enjoyed a puppet show thanks to a presentation to Mrs. Yate's
class by
Mr. and Mrs. Fancher. |
 |
Julie
Heller, Mohonasen's Language Arts Administrator enjoys
beekeeping as a hobby. She spent some time with the Bradt
students showing them the equipment needed to raise bees for
producing honey. Mrs. Yate's and Mrs. Weinlein's class learned
how bees made honey, tried on some of the equipment, and even tasted
some honey.

Paul Freemantle, an arborist from Union
College, shows Miss Welch's class the equipment needed to
climb a tree safely to check on the health of a tree.
Mathew wears a safety harness and learns how to hoist himself
up a tree using ropes. |

 | Students
learned about the “Wonders Down Under” through a video presentation by our own Ms. Cicchinelli.
Ms.
Cicchinelli took a sabbatical to Australia to learn about
conservation issues that face that continent. She shared her
stories and what she learned in a video of her visit to
Australia.

Ms.
Ciccinelli's class performed a dramatic play based on The
Lorax from Dr. Seuss, and
The Great Kapok Tree by Lynn Cherry. Students also
prepared the props and costumes for the play. |

Finally,
students students and faculty participated in an All School
Meeting titled
"Saving the Earth: A Team Effort"
Songs were sung by the EARTH TONES: Mrs. Backman, Mrs. Brem,
Mrs. DeSiena, Mrs. Dorato, Mrs. Doulides,

Fine, Mrs. McIver, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Wiedl, and directed by
Mrs. Peck. |

Kindergarten sang, "Tall, Tall, Tree".
First Grade sang "I'm A Flower". Second Grade sang
"Care of the Earth".
