Former NFL player, author scores a touchdown at Draper

Former NFL player and best-selling children's author Tim Green scored a touchdown with Draper Middle School students during a recent visit to the school.
On Friday, Oct. 15, Green engaged students in an hour-long assembly about his passion for football and books. He talked about achieving both of his childhood dreams—to not only become an NFL football player but also a best-selling author. He shared stories about his family, college education and the importance of character, tolerance and generosity as personality traits.
Green urged students to put school before sports and make reading a part of their lives.
"If you are a lawyer, doctor, engineer—you're that for the rest of your life," said Green. "You don't have to be lucky. The hard work you put into education is guaranteed to pay you back."
He also encouraged students to think about success in terms of personal relationships and kindness rather than fortune and fame.
"I'm rich... I have a wife and five children who I would give my life for," said Green. "I love them with all my heart—now that's wealth, that's richness."
Following his presentation, Green took a variety of questions from the audience and signed books. Students were encouraged to e-mail him with any additional questions or comments via his website.
Green is a former defensive end for the Atlanta Falcons, and is the author of more than a dozen books for adults and the New York Times best-selling children's book series, Football Genius, among others.
