Draper Alternative Education students reinforce good habits through mural project
Jan. 27, 2011
The deans' office at the middle school has a fresh, new look thanks to students in Mr. VanWie's Alternate Education class.
Draper Middle School's Deans, Mr. Rider and Mr. Diacetis, approached the class because they remembered the world map painting project they created last year. The purpose of the project was to provide the students with an outlet to showcase their artistic abilities and give back to the school by beautifying the deans' office.
On one wall students painted the Mohonasen logo, while they painted the "7 Habits of Effective Teens" on the adjacent wall. Each student painted one "habit" and had to research what that particular habit meant and how they would try to use the concept during the school year to help them find success.
"This project was an excellent opportunity to reinforce character education, teamwork, and a sense of community at Draper," said Mr. VanWie. "The results of the project were phenomenal. The students came alive and volunteered their time after school to get this done."
