INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to Spanish 1B! HOLA, I hope you are ready to have some more fun!  This course will prepare you to listen, speak, read and write in Spanish and is the second half of Level One of the high school course. At the end of this course, you will be able to tell others about yourself, your family, your house  and favorite activities. In June you will be taking the New York State  Foreign Language Proficiency Exam in Spanish. Successful completion of this exam with a 75% or higher and a 75% overall average in this class will allow you to receive ONE high school credit!.  The following are the classroom's rules that you should follow to be successful in Spanish

MATERIALS:

6. Study by practicing saying aloud all vocabulary words for at least 15 minutes each day.

GRADING SYSTEM:
 All quarterly grades will be based upon the following:

              Bonus/pts: Students who participate during class and obtain more than 100 pesetas per quarter will have their extra pesetas added to quizzes' grades. Also, students will have the opportunity to obtain extra credit anytime during the year by completing any of the activities on Sra Mair's  EXTRA CREDIT link.

        The New York State Foreign Language Proficiency 

 The Final exam for this course is the New York State Language Proficiency Assessment. This exam is 25% of your final average for Spanish, in other words in counts as one more quarter grade.

The exam consists of the following four parts:

 Part 1a.  10 pts.  Oral Participation  in class.
 Part 1b. 20 pts. Oral Situations (student holds 4 conversations
                                  (with teacher on  topics chosen randomly) 
                                           
 Part 2 (A, B, C)  40 pts. Listening Comprehension
 Part 3  (A and B) 20 pts. Reading Comprehension
 Part 4  10  pts.  Writing (Two notes out of three and 30
                                         words each.)

EXTRA CREDIT

To ensure your success in Spanish this year I have created several activities which you could complete anytime during the school year. You must print out your completed activity, write your name on it and hand in. Each activity will have directions and the number of points (PESETAS) that you can receive. Remember pesetas are points towards your quizzes and oral participation. Good Luck....Buena Suerte..............!!!!

Yo Soy de Colombia en América del Sur. Yo tengo 56 años y vivo en Los Estados Unidos desde 1978. Yo soy morena, flaca, y muy inteligente. Yo tengo seis hijas: Marylee, Margarita, Marta, Maribel, Maria y Mariana. Marylee tiene 14 años y es rubia, inteligente y seria. Mariana tiene 18 años y  es morena y muy cariñosa. Maribel es un chico de 10 años y muy loco. Mi esposo es muy, muy bajo y tambien muy inteligente. Mi madre se llama Gladys y vive en la Ciudad de Nueva York. Yo tengo 8 hermanos. Seis de mis hermanos viven en Colombia y dos: Angelica y Manuel viven en Los Estados Unidos. Yo soy una estudiante guaduada en la Universidad Estatal de Albany en Nueva York. Yo voy a la escuela todos los dias en motocicleta . Yo voy a la escuela que se llama New Covenant Charter School porque yo soy profesora de italiano. Todos mis estudiantes son morenos, no hay rubios en la escuela.
