Draper Career Day: Finding a job you love

A career can be something you like to do. That was the message Draper Middle School eighth graders heard at the school’s annual 8th Grade Career Day, held at Schenectady County Community College. This idea – that you can love your job – was conveyed by both SCCC Executive Director for Workforce Development Matt Grattan and the event’s keynote speaker, Schenectady City Mission Executive Director Mike Saccocio.

“Your career can be something you’re naturally good at … or a career can be something you’ve always struggled with,” Saccocio said as he told a handful of stories about people he has worked with at the City Mission. He ended his remarks with, “As you think about the future, don’t forget the things you can start doing now.”

Students heard from 19 different presenters from a range of careers, including an executive chef, a welder/plumber, an athletic trainer, a social worker, and an auto mechanic. See the complete list of presenters below.
