Expectations for the Living
Environment
Welcome
to the Living Environment. I hope you plan on having a great year, I
do! These expectations will help everyone learn and enjoy science.
- Students
are expected to
-
be
on time to class every day
-
bring
a pen,
pencil, calculator, free reading book, assignment notebook, index cards and
Science notebook to class daily, as
well as any assignments that are due
-
complete
all assignments on time and to the best of your ability
-
behave
in a manner which is not disruptive
-
treat
others with politeness and respect
-
utilize the 7-Habits
- Any
breaking of the four key rules posted in the classroom results in a Block 5
appointment.
- For
your SCIENCE NOTEBOOK, you will need a 3-ring
binder with a supply of loose-leaf paper. Having your own 3-ring punch will be helpful.
You will also need a supply of index cards for vocabulary words.
- TEXTBOOK-
your textbook is fairly new. In order
to keep it in excellent shape, please cover it as soon as possible.
(Sticky covers are not acceptable and may damage the book.
Brown paper or paper bags work the best and hold up the
longest.)
- After
you have been absent it is your responsibility to do one of these:
-
Check
with me to see what you’ve missed. Don’t
wait until the next class day.
-
Contact
a classmate or other friend to find out what you missed
-
Check
out the homework hotline on the Draper website http://www.mohonasen.org/HWHLDraper/
- This
Living Environment course is a high school Regents course.
You must meet all
the requirements to pass the course and also be able to take the Regents
Examination. Don’t fall
behind or it will be difficult to get back on track.
GRADING
POLICY
- Homework
(10%)
You will have homework almost every night.
Homework is a bridge linking one day’s learning with the next.
With block scheduling, homework is an even more important bridge.
Homework is due the following class day and no
credit will be given for late homework.
- Classwork
and Labs (20%) There
is an 80 minute lab requirement/week for the Living Environment Course.
In order to take the Regents exam at the end of the course, you must
complete all labs satisfactorily, and they must be kept on file.
You will be meeting your 80 min lab requirement by attending lab
during the second 40 minutes of Advisory.
- Assessments
and Projects (Quizzes (15%), Tests (30%), and Projects (25%))
Assessments are quizzes and tests.
Consider the quizzes as “warning flags” for how well you’ll do
on a test. If you are not
doing well on quizzes, you need some help.
The tests and quizzes will contain the types of questions you will be
seeing on the Regents exam.
I
post grades in the classroom using your student identification number, so you
will always know how you are doing.
Your average should not be a surprise when interim reports and report
cards arrive.
For those thinking ahead, there is a New
York State Assessment in Science given in eighth grade. It consists of both a lab portion and a written portion.
The lab portion will be given in April with the written portion in May.
The Living Environment Regents will be given during Regents week in June.
