Bibliography Maker

This page was created by a Draper student. It takes the information from the source your citing and puts it in the correct format. In order to print it out, you must copy and paste it into a word document.

BIBLIOGRAPHY FORMAT

The bibliography, a list of sources used to gather information and alphabetized by the authors’ last names (or whatever is first in the entry), is placed at the end of your paper.  It provides the information necessary for a reader to locate and retrieve any sources you cite in your research.

General Information

Form

  • All entries must be in alphabetical order.

  • The first line of each entry should be flush left.  Subsequent lines should be indented one-half inch.

  • Use a double space between all references.

Author

  • Authors’ names are inverted (last name first); if a work has more than one author, invert only the first author’s name, follow it with a comma, then continue listing the rest of the authors.

  • If there is no author, simply use the next piece of information as the first item.

Title

  • Capitalize each word in the title of articles, books, etc. (This rule does not apply to “a”, “an”, “the”’ or to conjunctions, unless they are the first word of the title).

  • Underline or italicize title of books, journals, magazines, newspapers, films, CD-ROMs, and websites.

  • Titles of articles are in quotation marks.

Internet

  • Place Internet addresses all on one line if possible. If that is not practical or possible, just continue to the next linedo not add a dash to show the continuation to another line.

Note: Bibliography slips are available in the Library Media Center.
