In the last three years, Mohonasen has enacted almost $7 million in budget cuts and efficiencies. These have included cutting teacher, administrative and support staff positions; across-the-board budget cuts in areas including operations and maintenance, technology and athletics; and employee contract concessions.

As things stand now, for 2012-13 school officials are facing a $1.4 million budget gap. As the budget process gets underway, significant budget cuts are again being discussed.

These cuts will be the main topic of discussion at a district budget forum on Monday, January 30.

“Residents can expect that budget conversations will be very different this year,” Spring said. “After years of cutting what was already a very lean budget, we will have no choice but to look at wholesale programs and services that our community values – things like art, music and high school electives.”

The community forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the high school’s Farnsworth Technology Center. All Mohonasen residents are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting, which will consist of a brief presentation, followed by small-group discussions. If you plan to attend, please RSVP by e-mailing aleon@mohonasen.org or calling 356-8250.
