Bradt Primary School students celebrated Earth Day a little early this week when they received a visit from musical yogini and “kindie” artist Kira Willey.
Willey creates unique musical albums that blend upbeat and danceable tunes with children’s yoga instruction. On stage alongside her band members, she created an atmosphere that brought relaxation, focus and smiles to participants. Students were joined by their teachers as they practiced yoga staples ranging from stretching to mountain poses.
To underscore the importance of Earth Day, students had the opportunity to act out animal mannerisms and sounds and delighted in buzzing like bees and roaring loudly like lions.
At the conclusion of Willey’s performance, she ushered the audience into a “mindful moment:” a brief pause in the activities of the day that helped students and teachers to focus and set their intentions for the day.
