About Mrs.Rasmussen

Hello! My name is Mrs. Rasmussen and I am going to tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up in Oyster Bay on Long Island. I have a wonderful mother and father and a brother, who is 6 years older than I. The best part about living on Long Island was enjoying the ocean which was 20 minutes from where I lived. My family still lives down there so visiting is always fun!
After high school I attended Siena College where I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and minored in English. I graduated in 2001 and moved to Rochester, NY where I lived with a friend and we both attended The University Rochester. I went there hoping to discover what I truly had a passion for. It was between becoming a psychologist or becoming a teacher, so I took classes for both.
September 11th came and it was a very devastating time for me. I had many friends and family that worked in the city and I felt very lost being so far away from home during this time. It was time to move closer to home and focus on a career and a more specialized degree. I found peace living in the Albany area and attended The College of Saint Rose where I received my Master's in Education. It was here where I fell in love with the idea of being a teacher, made many lifetime friends and met my husband!
I worked during the day as a nursery school teacher and attended classes at night. In 2004 I graduated from The College of Saint Rose with my Master's in Education. I student taught at Mohonasen and Shenendahowa and after graduating I was a Teacher's Assistant at Altamont Elementary. I did a lot of substitute teaching after my position there until I was finally picked up by the Mohonasen School District which is where I desperately wanted a job! I started off teaching 6th grade English, moved to 5th grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade and then back to 5th grade. I was a filling a lot of maternity leaves and sick leaves along with wanting experience in all of the grade levels. I have settled in 5th grade where I enjoy everyday in the classroom.
I am married to a wonderful man who is currently the assistant principal at Greenville HS . We have two beautiful children, Hunter who is 2 1/2 and Abigail who is 1. As a family we enjoy movies, reading, vacationing in Cape Cod and on Long Island, visiting family and barbequing with friends. We love to laugh and have fun and we take life very lightly, always finding good in everything.
This is my memoir and I look forward to reading yours!
