School Wide Program at Bradt and Pinewood

 Let's be bucket filling schools!

Just start each day by saying to yourself, "I'm going to do something to fill someone's bucket today" ... And at the end of each, ask yourself, "Did I fill a bucket today?"  ~Carol McCloud, Author of "Have You Filled a Bucket Today"

The Program

The program is based on the book, “Have you filled a Bucket Today?” by Carol McCloud. The book presents a simple message with a big meaning.  Everyone has an invisible bucket that you can either fill or dip into. When you are a “bucket filler” you spread good, caring feelings to others, which makes everyone feel good! When you are a “bucket dipper” you take good feelings away from someone and you empty their bucket and your own bucket, too.

Here's how it works:

  • Every classroom and special area teachers have a  bucket, an envelope of coupons, and a book  (classroom teachers have a copy only, but there is a copy in the Library for anyone to check out and I have copies for all to borrow)

  • Every student who has a coupon filled out about them receives their coupon back and receives a bucket filling sticker

How do you fill a bucket?

  • Showing respect by always treating others the way that you would want to be treated

  • Helping others when they are sad, hurt, or need assistance

  • Including each other

  • If someone is lonely ask them to play

  • Saying hello

  • Introducing yourself

  • Show appreciation

  • Sticking up for each other

  • Be kind and caring

  • Smile

  • Say hello

  • Solving problems appropriately

  • Ask someone: how are you doing? or how is your day going?

  • And so many more...

What is dipping?

This is what you don't want to do because when you dip into a bucket you take out good feeling and thoughts, which empties others buckets and it empties your own. It makes your and others feel bad.

  • Calling people names

  • Making fun of someone

  • leaving someone out

  • teasing

  • bullying

  • tattling

  • hurting someone's feelings

  • hitting, punching, kicking, pushing, or pinching

  • Not showing respect for others and things around you

Bucket Filling Class!!!

The class with the most coupons at the end of each month will be recognized in the cafeteria as the "bucket filling" table. For 1 week the "bucket filling" class will have a special table cloth so everyone knows there is lots of "bucket FILLING" happening in the that class. The class will also have a class picture taken, which will be displayed for that month. GO "BUCKET FILLERS"!!!
