At its Monday, Dec. 19 regular meeting, the Mohonasen Board of Education appointed James Dilbone to the position of district director of technology.

This position had previously been vacant since September 2010, when former director Keith Rafaniello left the district. Dilbone has been with Mohonasen since 2002, working as a software system specialist in the district’s technology department. He is also the district’s energy manager and data warehouse coordinator.

While the appointment is a promotion for Dilbone, his overall annual salary of $79,420 will not increase. This is because stipends he received for the energy manager and data warehouse positions, will now become part of his annual salary.

Dilbone’s new position will include all duties associated with his former position, including energy manager and data warehouse coordinator, as well as overseeing all operations within the technology department. The software system specialist position he is leaving will remain vacant.

“High-quality technology for teaching and learning is a necessity in this day and age. Given that, it become clear to us in the year since Keith’s departure that it was crucial to have someone directing our district-wide technology department full time,” Mohonasen Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Spring said. “With this appointment, we’ve been able to ensure continuity within the department, while not impacting our budget.”

Dilbone is currently completing his master’s degree in Educational Administration and Policy Studies at SUNY Albany. He expects to complete his degree next fall. He has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technologies from the SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome and an associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technologies from Hudson Valley Community College.

Before coming to Mohonasen, he worked at Nortel Networks in Albany as a Field Technician/Project Planner, and before that at PSINET Inc. in Troy as a Technical Training Specialist.
