Pinewood School has been awarded $300 to purchase new graphic novels thanks to a grant from the Mohawk Library System and Upper Hudson Library System. The grant is supported by funds from the New York State Library’s Family Literacy Library Services grant program.

Holland describes graphic novels as books told in comic book format. "They are very popular and a great way to motivate students to read," adds Holland.

The grant will also provide training on using graphic novels as teaching tools in the classroom.
