Native American reenactor brings history to life for seventh graders
Nov. 4, 2011
On Nov. 3, David Cornelius, a Native American reenactor, came to Draper Middle School to present to seventh grade students, who are currently studying the history of Native Americans in social studies class.
Cornelius brought in a number of Native American artifacts found in New York State, and dressed in Native American clothing. Students had the opportunity to pass around artifacts, deer skins, and other authentic period pieces.
"The artifacts truly brought history to life as students were able to experience first hand what it may have been like to use, build, and interact with these items," said Draper Middle School Alternate Education Teacher William VanWie.
Students also engaged in a question and answer session with Cornelius to gain further insight on the real lives of local Native Americans past and present. A special thanks to Mr. Wade-Keszey for all his help.
