Bradt receives Target book grant

Bradt Primary School will be purchasing $500 worth of new books for the coming school year, thanks to a Target Books for Schools grant.

Dana Kosloski-Coats and Maribeth Kehrer, members of the Niskayuna Target’s Human Resources Team, visited the school in late August to present the award to Bradt Assistant Principal Arlene DeSiena. Bradt was selected, they said, because several Mohonasen alumni work at the Niskayuna Target and the group was interested in giving back to the community.

“We were completely thrilled to receive this award,” DeSiena said. “It was such a nice surprise—one that will help all of our students for years to come.”

Aside from the grant, employees from the Niskayuana Target are currently making plans to visit Bradt during the school year to read to students.

The books will be purchased through First Book, a nonprofit organization that to date has distributed more than 80 million books and educational resources to programs and schools throughout the United States and Canada.

Books for Schools is just one of Target’s many grant programs. In fact, Target is on track to reach $1 billion in giving to education and reading by the end of 2015. To learn more about the Target grant programs, visit their website.
