Food battle was close contest

Timothy Hulihan David Bataglia cookingOn Jan. 12, Jean Vause’s Food and Nutrition class observed HS Assistant Principal Timothy Hulihan and HS Monitor David Battaglia battle it out in the first-ever "Iron Chef Mohonasen” competition.

The chefs were given two "secret" ingredients – boneless chicken breast and leeks – to come up with a unique and healthy dish. While the chicken didn’t pose a problem for either contestant, they were not too familiar with leeks.

Students rated the dishes based on appearance, taste and food prep presentation. They were also encouraged to make their choices based on the use of the ingredients.

In the end, Mr. Hulihan’s leek and cheese stuffed chicken with pink sauce won over Mr. Battaglia’s mushroom, pepper, garlic, leek, grilled chicken pizza. After the main event, Mr. Battalia showed students how to make a buffalo chicken pizza.
