Open houses offer parents a way to build relationships with teachers

Open house at the beginning of the year is a great time to get to know your child's teachers and learn about ways you can support the year's learning at home. Also at open houses, parents get a chance to meet school administrators, special area teachers, librarians, social workers and other school personnel whom their child may see on a daily basis.

Communication all year long is key

Open houses are just the beginning of what can be a year-long relationship between a student, his/her parents and his/her teacher(s). Parents should take advantage of parent/teacher conferences and other opportunities to build on these important home/school connections.

Parent-teacher conferences are a good time to talk about the areas where your child may need extra help or ways you can expand upon classroom lessons. Volunteering in the classroom, attending school events and sending notes or e-mail messages are great ways to keep in touch with teachers throughout the year and stay informed about what your children are learning.

Also, many Mohonasen teachers have their own Web pages, which feature homework assignments, class calendars and other important classroom information.
