Mock DWI events scheduled for Wednesday

This Wednesday, May 12, Mohonasen High School will be holding its annual mock DWI crash and DWI/safe driving awareness assembly. The goal of both presentations is to raise student awareness prior to prom, ball and graduation season.

The mock crash will feature Mohonasen student actors in make-up, members of Rotterdam Ambulance, Rotterdam Fire District #2, the Rotterdam Paramedics, the Rotterdam Police and DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home will also be on hand to make the event feel like reality to the students.

Similarly, during the assembly, students will watch two videos: one that tells the story of two sisters who died in an alcohol-related crash and another of a simulated crash, demonstrating serious physical injuries, that is the result of a driver texting.

Both events will contain graphic content that could be difficult for some students. Counselors will be available for any student who needs assistance. Parents are urged to talk to their children about thoughts or feelings they may have as a result of these events. Additionally, this is a good time for parents to remind their student drivers about making safe choices behind the wheel.

Any parent who would like to view the videos before Wednesday should call the high school office at 356-8300.

Please note: The mock DWI crash will be held only if the weather allows. The assembly will be held regardless.
