Draper students celebrate the wonders of the world
June 10, 2010
"Buckle up and hold on tight. Here we go," exclaimed a Draper student in Lori Marshall's Developmental Skills class. This enthusiastic introduction set the tone for the classes' presentation for parents, family members, friends and teachers on the eight wonders of the world.
The presentation was the culmination of a year-long project where students learned about the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the Taj Mahal in India, Mount Everest in Nepal, the Great Wall of China, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, Egyptian pyramids, Machu Picchu in Peru, and the Great Causeway in Ireland.
The class started their "trip" through these great landmarks at the beginning of the school year by reading, "Adventure to the Eight Wonders of the World," by Carole Marsh.
After reading the book, the class created passports, studied the history of the different locations and their habitats. Their favorite activity was going on a white water rafting trip in Warrensburg, which allowed them to pretend they were on the Colorado River flowing through the Grand Canyon.
After presenting their projects, the people in attendance were treated to a slideshow of pictures from throughout the school year.
