Sixth-grade students write special letters to Santa
Dec. 21, 2009
Sixth-grade
students in Mrs. Gabree-Huba’s class put a twist on writing
traditional letters to Santa during an ELA lesson this past month.
Students were asked to think about why they should be on Santa’s “nice” list.
They wrote about their positive character traits and had to give examples of specific things they had done to support that trait.
When the letters were completed, Mrs. Gabree-Huba dropped them in Santa’s mailbox at Macy’s department store. Macy’s donates one dollar per letter to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, an organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
“It was a great ELA lesson,” said Mrs. Gabree-Huba. “The lesson helped them to think about their values and giving back to others.”
