Mohonasen Field Band places third in state championships; Received highest score to date

On Nov. 1, Mohonasen's Field Band placed third in the New York State Small School Class 2 Field Band Championships at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

"I am really proud of the students and what they accomplished," said Music Coordinator Keith Bushey. "They worked so hard and show such great committment."

Scores are based on difficulty and effectiveness on the field, he said. Together, the band and the colorguard need to create visual and musical effects that are appealing and show variety. Drum majors Dan Sabatini, Brittany Ruth and Victoria Hull, along with the rest of the band, have been hard at work since July. This year's show called, "Reflections of War," was a three-segmented piece that focused on the many emotions of war.

The field band received a score of 86.85, which is the highest score the district has ever received. The band scored just five-hundredths of a point less than the team who placed second, with a score of 86.90. Last year, the Mohonasen Field Band brought home the Governor's Cup.
