Indoor Track athletes compete at state qualifer; Senior places first in triple jump
March 2, 2010
On Feb. 27, Mohonasen sent 11 Varsity Indoor Track athletes to compete at the state qualifier meet at the University at Albany.
Senior Jessica Ciraulo placed first in the triple jump with a jump of 36'1.5". She is ranked 13th in the state in this event, and is part of the Milesplit U.S. First Team Elite. Jessica currently holds the Indoor Track School Record for the triple jump (37'1"), as well as three other school records (50 meter hurdles, 55 meter hurdles, and the 400 meter dash). Ciraulo's first place finish earned her the chance to compete at states this Saturday, March 6 at Cornell University.
All ten other athletes—Mallory Collier, O'Tavia Gordon, Kelsey Bashaw, Courtnee Richardson, Josh Johnson, Frank Emmi, Mi'Chael White, Nate Greklek, Ahmed Wise, and CJ Stone—had great performances as well. The school record holding boys 4x400m relay (Stone, Wise, Johnson, Emmi) finished fourth at the meet. The girls 4x200m relay (Richardson, Gordon, Bashaw, Collier) finished in sixth place. Top ten performances were also completed by Mallory Collier in the triple jump, Nate Greklek in the high jump and 55 meter hurdles, and Mi'chael White in the high jump and long jump.
"This group was the largest group in at least
five years to travel to the state qualifier meet," said Varsity
Indoor Track Coach Nicole Zablotny. "Each athlete had a phenominal
season, and all but seniors Jessica Ciraulo and Nate Greklek will
return next year."
