Mohon girls excited about math & science

Photo of GEMS studentsOn Thursday, Nov. 5, five Mohonasen seventh- and eighth-grade students participated in a day-long GEMS (Girls Excited about Math and Science) program held at Russell Sage College in Troy.

Throughout the day, the  girls participated in engineering, math, and computer science workshops. They also had the opportunity to meet and work with peers from other area school districts.

A panel of college students from RPI and Russell Sage, as well as various professionals in the fields of math, science and computers talked to the high school students about their experiences as women in these career fields.

It was both educational and inspiring for Mohonasen's students, especially when the panel discussion was opened up for a question and answer session.

"It was really interesting to hear how excited these women are about math and science, and their career choices," said one Mohonasen student. "It was truly inspiring!"
