Select sixth-grade students recently had the opportunity to enhance their writing skills through a series of mini workshops called, “Writing Expressions.”
The district’s Literacy Consultant, Dr. Irene Rosenthal, Associate Professor of Literacy at the College of Saint Rose, along with graduate students, worked with Draper students for six weeks during part of their advisory time. They worked in small groups on a persuasive writing assignment to be used as the basis for a short speech. Students then presented their speeches to their classmates.
Dr. Rosenthal said the students did an excellent job developing and presenting their ideas.
The district will continue partnering with St. Rose and Dr. Rosenthal in order to offer additional small group instruction for students in the future. Seventh- and eighth-grade students participated in the program earlier in the school year.
