Wrestling team helps package boxes for soldiers in Iraq

At the Mohonasen Board of Education meeting on May 18, the varsity wrestling team was presented with an American flag for their volunteer efforts. This past November, the team came together to package more than 400 boxes of food and toiletry items for the 3-142 Attack Aviation Battalion, which is serving in Iraq.

The items were donated by local VFWs, veterans and community members. High schooler and wrestler Blake Kendall was helping package the items, since his stepfather, Kevin Ferreira, is one of the battalion members. To show their support for Blake, the wrestling team decided to help package the items. Because of all the help, everything was packaged and shipped out in one day.

To show their gratitude, the battalion sent the students an American flag, which was flown on their helicopter during a combat mission. They also sent a certificate thanking the wrestling team (shown below).
