Transition opportunity helps parents become better acquainted with school

Picture of Special Education Director Karla Empie with a group of parentsBradt Primary School, in conjunction with the Mohonasen special education office, recently held a transition program for parents of students who are coming from a special education preschool program to Bradt school this coming September.

The program, Special Education Director Karla Empie said, is designed to give parents an opportunity to get more information about the programs the district has to offer and to ease some of the anxiety they may have.

This is the first time Mohonasen has held this program, which was created by Bradt psychologist and CPSE Chairperson Marta Hewitt.

While at the school, parents not only had an opportunity to meet with administrators and teachers, they also got a chance to walk the halls and visit the kindergarten classrooms, the developmental and behavioral skills rooms, the occupational and physical therapy rooms, the speech/language therapy rooms and the language concepts room.

“It’s one thing to hear about these programs, it’s another to see them for yourself,” one parent said.
