Third graders learn about the challenges other students face

Dec. 16, 2008

Pinewood third graders recently came together with their teachers, social workers and special education teachers to learn about the challenges and strengths of students with special needs.

Students in Ms. Krawiekci’s and Ms. Girodano’s classrooms visited Ms. Kosakoski’s BOCES classroom to meet special needs students as a way to identify the similarities and differences in their respective classrooms, school social worker Elizabeth Haynesworth said.

Students then worked with therapists and teachers to learn about the equipment and therapies used by special needs students and special education teachers. The students got a chance to interact with therapeutic equipment and learn about the challenges faced by students with motor, visual or communication impairments.
