High
school students to study abroad on Rotary scholarships
Feb. 2, 2009
Mohonasen High School junior Eric Parks and senior Audrey Sabatini have been awarded the prestigious Rotary International Club Scholarship to study abroad next year. Eric will spend his senior year in France, living with French host families and attending a French high school. Audrey has deferred her college enrollment for a year and will spend next year in Belgium, living with Belgian host families and attending a Belgian high school. Both students will receive an allowance from Rotary Club while overseas.
"I'm very excited for these students. I know that they are in for a once-in-a-lifetime experience," High school French teacher Lynne Macko said. "They will come back completely bi-lingual and bi-cultural having been immersed in the culture for ten months."
Macko added a special "thank you" to the Rotterdam Sunrise Rotary Club for making this opportunity possible.
In exchange for Eric's and Audrey's participation in the program, the Rotterdam Sunrise Rotary Club will receive two students from abroad, who will be enrolled in Mohonasen High School next year. The Rotary is currently seeking host families for these students. Download flyer for more information. (PDF document)
Any family in the district is invited to host the students, not just families of high schoolers.
