Bradt
students learn about generosity while helping local foundation
Dec. 19, 2008
In a matter of two weeks, Bradt Primary School students donated $340 dollars to Pennies for Paws.
This gesture was part of a character education lesson, where each month Bradt students study different character education traits, such as respect, honesty and kindness.
Appropriately, December’s character education trait is generosity.
In honor of the word, school counselor Brenda DiNicola implemented a program called “Pennies for Paws,” where all proceeds go to the Animal Protection Foundation in Scotia.
Each day, students donated their loose change or snack money into a "paw bin." For every quarter donated, DiNicola would hang a paw print up in the cafeteria.
“The cafeteria is now covered with paw
prints,” said DiNicola. “The students really enjoy coming into the
cafeteria every day to see the line of paw prints grow.”
On Dec. 19, Kim Jess from the Animal Protection Foundation came to collect the generous donation.
