Family & Friends raises more than $9,000 for Making Strides Against
Breast Cancer Walk
Oct. 22, 2008
This year the Mohonasen Family & Friends team broke a few of its own records for the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The team raised more money than ever before—$9,404—and broke its online donation record with $5,000. For its fundraising efforts, the Mohonasen team was in the top ten teams and top ten companies for this year’s walk.
In all, the 2008 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, raised a record-breaking total of $1,050,000 for breast cancer research.
Approximately 92 Mohonasen team members joined 13,000 walkers at this year’s walk, which was held on Oct. 19 in Albany’s Washington Park.
The
Mohonasen Family and Friends team started walking 13 years ago, with
just four team members. One of the original four walkers, Lina, has
recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Mohonasen Friends and
Family would like to thank Lina and her family and friends for their
incredible efforts to raise money this year and for helping the
Mohonasen team surpass its fundraising goal.
A special thank you to all those who donated to Mohonasen's own record-breaking total, and to team leaders Kim Coelho, Karen Smith, Jill Osinski, Darcy Brem, Pam Constantino and Pat Rushby who helped organize this group effort.
Mohonasen Family & Friends would also like to thank the Mohonasen High School Orchestra and Tri-M Music Honor Society, as well as their advisors Kimberly Kondenar and Gail Sparlin, and Mohonasen’s Spanish National Honor Society and their advisors Heather Clikeman and Nancy Butz. These groups were instrumental in raising awareness and money for this year’s walk. A thank you also goes out to several Mohonasen girl scouts who served as volunteers and distributed bottled water to the walkers.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer allows the American Cancer Society to continue its mission to put an end to breast cancer and to diminish suffering for those afflicted by the disease.
