Scott Hays appointed middle school assistant principal
June 18, 2009
The
Mohonasen Board of Education recently appointed Scott Hays to the
position of middle school assistant principal. Hays takes over for
Rosemary Soltis, who left the district earlier in the spring.
For the last nine years, Hays taught social studies at Draper -- first for three years as a sixth-grade teacher and then for six years in the seventh grade. Since 2005 he has also served as a part-time Dean of Students at the school.
Hays is also a Master Sergeant with the New York Amy National Guard, where he has served since 1989 both in a full-time and part-time capacity.
"I've enjoyed being a teacher at Draper for the last nine years and look forward to serving the district in this new role," Hays said. "I think that middle school represents the biggest transition in a student's life since they made the transition from home to kindergarten."
"I want to try and affect the lives of every student in the school," he added.
Hays has an Associate's Degree in business administration from Adirondack Community College -- as well as a Bachelor's Degree in history, a Master's Degree in education and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in School Building Leadership, all from SUNY Albany. He lives in Greenfield with his wife and two high-school-age children.
As a teacher, he was the school coordinator for the geography bee, the advisor for the school newspaper and an advisor for the ski club. These are all things he would like to continue to be part of in his new role, he said. Outside of school he enjoys skiing and backpacking in the Adirondacks.
