Middle school students use the power of video to create projects
June 2, 2009
Sixth-grade
students on the 6-1 team have been busy creating videos to showcase
what they’ve been learning in class.
Mrs. Coelho’s class recently created “I am from poems,” based on George Ella Lyon’s poem, “Where I’m From.” Before writing their poems, students had to brainstorm objects and places that they felt are important in their lives, as well as think of memories from their childhood. The written poems were brought to life when students presented them in front of a green screen and they were put to video.
Students in Mrs. Weaver’s and Ms. Brassard’s classes created digital booktalks or “movie trailors” to entice other students to read their specific literature circle books. They started out creating storyboards to capture the most important scenes in the novel, and then worked cooperatively as videographers, producers, directors and editors to create the digital booktalks.
