Draper students kick off 25 book reading challenge
Feb. 2, 2009
On
Jan. 27, Draper students kicked off the "25 Book Reading Challenge"
with local children's author and illustrator
Matthew McElligott.
The reading challenge theme this year is "snuggle up with a good book." Students were encouraged to bring a book to read, and wear their pajamas.
McElligott showed students how he illustrated books using computer programs—which are the some of the same programs Draper has in their own computer lab!
After the presentation, McElligott signed books and joined the students for pizza, juice, cookies and hot cocoa.
The night concluded with a literary trivia contest where students won books and gift certificates to Barnes and Noble, made bookmarks, and spent the rest of the evening getting a head start on the reading challenge.
Students have until June 12, 2009 to read 25 books. The students who meet the 25 book goal at the end of the school year will receive gift certificates, books and will attend a make your own sundae party. Good luck!
