Picture of Joshua BradtMohonasen senior named National Merit Scholarship semifinalist

Congratulations to Mohonasen High School senior Joshua Bradt, who was recently named a semifinalist in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship (NMS) Program. Josh is among a field of 16,000 students nationwide who will continue in the competition for some 8,200 National Merit Scholarships that will be offered next spring.

More than 1.5 million juniors in approximately 21,000 high schools entered this year's National Merit Program by taking the 2007 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). To become a finalist, a semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test. Semifinalists must also submit a detailed application and essay outlining their participation and leadership in school and community activities.

Good luck to Josh as he moves ahead in the scholarship program competition!
