Bottle buddy characters bring biographies to life

What do you get when you take a two-liter bottle, a Styrofoam ball, and other art materials?

At Pinewood you get a bottle buddy.

Katria Hitrick’s fourth-grade students, with the help of Pinewood librarian Mindy Holland, have been reading biographies. After reading their book of choice, each student created a “bottle buddy” based on the main character from the biography.

Students put their creativity to work by making the character’s body out of a plastic bottle container, adding a Styrofoam head on top, and designing the face and clothing to represent the person’s characteristics.

After creating their bottle buddies, the fourth graders wrote about the character to teach their classmates about his/her life.
