New York comes alive in Draper classroom
June 16, 2009
From the Adirondacks to the Erie Canal, New York City to Cooperstown -- the restaurants, heroes, landmarks, museums and history of New York State came to life recently during an end-of-the-year celebration in Lori Marshall's Developmental Skills class at Draper Middle School.
All year the students have been studying their state. They've taken field trips to places like the New York State Museum in Albany, the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, and the Erie Canal at Lock 8 in their very own town of Rotterdam. The students studied famous New Yorkers and landmarks. They created their own artwork, like that hanging on the walls of the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan and studied music, like that played at the famous Cotton Club in Harlem.
After presenting the many projects they did on all they have learned, parents, family members, friends and teachers were treated to a slideshow of pictures from throughout the school year.
