EXCEL projects improve energy efficiency
Dec. 29, 2008
District wide infrastructure improvements are currently underway thanks to the $21.9 million EXCEL building project, approved by voters last fall. The EXCEL project is phase I of the district’s long-range plan—the second phase being the building project currently under consideration by the Board of Education.
Much of the work that has already been completed—or will be completed this summer—will improve energy efficiency at all four district buildings. This includes new boilers and boiler controls, plumbing system enhancements and new blinds at all buildings. Additionally, Mohonasen High School will receive a new hot water heater, the middle school will receive new hot water tanks, and Pinewood will be connected to the public sewer system.
“These basic improvements to our buildings are essential to improving efficiency and containing energy costs district wide,” Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Spring said.
Aside from the above work to improve efficiency, other renovation work is scheduled across the district that will either close the buildings for the summer, or substantially limit use by district and/or community groups or programs.
This work includes replacing cubbies and some flooring at Bradt; the renovation of the kitchen/cafeteria, library and entryway at Pinewood; handicap accessibility updates at the middle school and more.
