On Friday, Dec. 5, fourth graders at Pinewood were treated to a special visit from Native American storyteller James Bruchac. Mr. Bruchac is also a naturalist and author. His presentation captivated the children with castings of animal tracks. Using the tracks, Bruchac discussed lines of symmetry and information about animals native to this region.

Students also sang a song to encourage snow and heard stories of Native American legends.

"He was awesome and funny," fourth grader Steven Avery said. "He made me want to read the Monster book that he talked about."

Maria Darconte agreed, saying she plans to "read all of his books."

"I still can't believe he came to our school," Zachar Gandrow said.

One student from each class attended a special brunch with Bruchac. These representatives asked questions and brought the information back to their classmates.
