Students learn about hurricanes via Weatherbug

Picture from phone conferenceOn September 20, the Grade 5 ROW team took their classes to the LGI room at Mohonasen High School for a science/technology-based field trip where students participated in a lesson about hurricanes via phone conference.

The phone conference was set up through Weatherbug with Meteorologist Joe Bartosik, who was stationed in Maryland. Joe helped students understand the facts about hurricanes through a PowerPoint presentation, which was viewed by 27 different schools in more than 14 states.

The students listened in awe as schools from all over the country called in with questions for Joe.

In science class, each student wrote a question that they wanted to ask the meteorologist. All of the questions were collected, compiled, and a select few were e-mailed to the meteorologist. There was only time for 10 questions to be read and answered—and one of the questions came from Pinewood students!
