District welcomes new transportation supervisor
January 2007
The
top priority for a school transportation supervisor is always
safety. Along with getting students to and from school without any
mishaps, the supervisor is responsible for making sure his staff of
more than 80 employees (bus drivers, aides and mechanics) are
operating buses that are safe, driving on roads that are safe, and
receiving up-to-date bus training safety.
New Mohonasen transportation supervisor Randy
Jerreld was the head bus driver at the Scotia-Glenville district
prior to coming to Mohonasen. He brings with him more than seven
years experience in school transportation and a strong desire to
keep Mohonasen's transportation department running smoothly.
"In my short time working here, I've learned that this department is
a well-oiled machine and the employees are very dedicated to their
jobs," he said. "But, there's always room for improvement in every
job." Toward that end, Jerreld has already begun working on a
thorough evaluation of the department's procedures to look at areas
for improvement.
He's also determined to attract more bus drivers to fill the many
open positions at Mohonasen.
"Finding bus drivers is a real challenge—and not just for Mohonasen,"
he notes. "The bus driver shortage is an industry-wide problem."
Anyone interested in becoming a Mohonasen bus driver is encouraged
to call Jerreld at 356-8260.
