It's tax time! IRS tax volunteers visit Mohonasen High School

Picture of tax volunteer working with studentOn February 27, approximately ten high school students signed up to meet with IRS tax volunteers to complete their 2008 tax returns.

The service was free to any student who signed up for an appointment in the high school's Career Counseling Center.

In addition to completing and filing the student’s state and local tax returns, the IRS Tax Volunteers taught students how to handle their tax responsibility independently in future years. The tax volunteers are willing to guide students through the tax process and teach them about their personal income tax responsibilities.

Students who sign-up should bring:

  • All W-2 Wage and Tax Statements

  • All 1099-Div

  • Drivers License or School ID

  • Know their Social Security Number and Birth Date.

  • Only students who are claimed as a dependent on a parent’s/guardian’s tax return are eligible for the service.

This is the third year that the tax volunteers have come to Mohonasen, and they are planning on coming back again next year. If your children are interested in using this free tax service next year, please contact the high school Guidance Office next year around tax time.

Special thanks to volunteers Joanne Passineau and Shelley Willette from VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Service). VITA helps individuals, who make a yearly income of less than $40,000 a year, with their taxes for free. For more information, call (518) 427-4189 or (518) 427-5409.
