Technology classes contribute to courtyard makeover
May 2008
During
the past year the high school courtyard has been through a dramatic
transformation. The landscaping and new monuments have made the area
a nice place for students to “hang out.” Now, there is one more item
to add to the list: Adirondack chairs.
Rob Buehler’s Production Systems class (held in the fall) and
Residential Structures class (held in the spring) have been busy
making six Adirondack chairs and new trash receptacles for the
courtyard.
“My classes came up with a design and built a set of chairs, which
were donated from our department to the school,” said Buehler. “I
thought it would be nice to try and work on making the courtyard a
better, more inviting place for students to mingle and the chairs
came to mind.”
Some other projects that Buehler’s Production Systems students are
making include wood-working projects like shelves, small tables and
benches. His Residential Structure class is actually building a
full-scale garden shed.
“These courses teach the importance of fundamental skills,” said
Buehler. “I tell my students that they don’t have to go out and work
in the construction field because they have taken these classes.
These concepts will help them as future homeowners and problem
solvers.”
