Bradt students celebrate reading through song
March 2008
If
you walked into the Bradt gym during the afternoon of March 18,
you’d probably think you were at a rock and roll concert. Students
were singing, laughing, waving their hands in the air—and listening
for popular children’s books and characters, such as Dr. Suess’ “Sam
I Am” and Shel Silverstein’s “The Giving Tree” included in the
songs.
Jim McCarthy’s Celebrate Reading assembly was full of enthusiasm and
student participation. McCarthy, former teacher and long-time
professional musician, has been presenting school assembly concerts
across the northeastern United States since 1995. Bradt students
helped McCarthy sing, “Tune into a Good Book” otherwise known as the
“Na-Na Song,” “We all Love to Read” and “Dive into a Book,” which
celebrates summer reading.
