Bradt students celebrate reading through song

Picture of Jim McCarthy at Celebrate Reading assemblyIf you walked into the Bradt gym during the afternoon of March 18, you’d probably think you were at a rock and roll concert. Students were singing, laughing, waving their hands in the air—and listening for popular children’s books and characters, such as Dr. Suess’ “Sam I Am” and Shel Silverstein’s “The Giving Tree” included in the songs.

Jim McCarthy’s Celebrate Reading assembly was full of enthusiasm and student participation. McCarthy, former teacher and long-time professional musician, has been presenting school assembly concerts across the northeastern United States since 1995. Bradt students helped McCarthy sing, “Tune into a Good Book” otherwise known as the “Na-Na Song,” “We all Love to Read” and “Dive into a Book,” which celebrates summer reading.
