1st Quarter Focus

Regents course in United States History & Government

Both historical and current examples of the key concepts expressed in the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights will examined.  Key concepts include natural rights, checks and balances, separation of powers and federalism.

Students should keep themselves up-to-date on current controversial issues such as health care reform and troops in Afghanistan.


APUSH

An introduction to historical critical analysis using the time periods of colonial settlement, American Revolution and the creation of the Constitution will be the primary focus.

Students will also begin a biography project on the founding fathers where they will analyze a respected historian's assessment of either Franklin, Washington, Hamilton, Adams or Jefferson.




4th Quarter Focus

 

Regents course in United States History & Government

  1. Exciting topics that spark student interest & discussion include:  The Turbulent 60s, President Kennedy & the Cuban Missile Crisis, The Vietnam War, Nixon & the Watergate Scandal, Clinton's Impeachment.

  2. Regents review will be ongoing with dedicated sessions during 10th period to help with thematic essay writing as well as topical reviews

  3. Please encourage your son or daughter to attend review sessions and use their review book to sharpen their test taking skills & develop their content knowledge.

 

APUSH

  1. The APUSH exam is the morning of May 7, 2010.  Students should be vigorously preparing each day for the exam.

  2. Topical review sessions will be held on designated days during 10th period.  Encourage your son or daughter to attend the sessions  & use the web links provided to them.

  3. After the exam, we will do in in-depth study of the mechanics of the U.S. Constitution and Supreme Court cases needed for the June Regents exam which is the final for the course.
