Image of boy in wheelchair playing baseballPURPOSE:  To continue to educate our students about physical fitness, wellness, nutrition and sport when they are unable to participate actively in the physical education class. 

 

BASIC PROCEDURES:

1.    Bring the medical note to the nurse.  She will fill out a Mohonasen Physical Education excuse. 

2.     Bring the Mohonasen P.E. excuse to your Physical Education Teacher.

3.     Your teacher will fill out an internet pass for you to bring to the library.

4.     All medicals must go to the school library for the duration of their assigned physical education period.  You may not go to any alternative locations to do this work.  If the library is closed report to room 27 or 47 to complete your make-up work for the day.  There is NO group work, you are to complete the project ALONE! 

5.     Students must sign in on the medical make-up sign in sheet.  

6.     Students will then work on the designated PHYSICAL EDUCATION assignment for the period.

7.     Failure to report to the library and sign in will result in a CLASS CUT! 

8.     Failure to work on the Physical Education assignment alone will result in a student being assigned to Internal Suspension. 

9.     You must HAND-IN your assignment to Ms. Backman or Mrs. Shaw AT THE END OF THE PERIOD.

1.     For every day under 1 month (1 to 10 class periods), the student will complete an article critique on current events.  That means you will do one critique for each day that you are out of class.  They will be worth 4 Points each.  

2.  For every MONTH a student is out of physical education, he or she will complete a Book Report (see bottom of page).

Go to ONE of the following websites:   dailygazette.com, timesunion.com, cnn.com, usatoday.com (you may utilize the sports, life, local, or national news pages).

Locate one current events article that was published TODAY that relates to physical education, health, wellness, sports, or nutrition.  The article must be at least one full page in length.   Choose something that interests you-sports headlines and highlights, local or professional athletes, healthy eating habits, diets, new fitness techniques, outdoor recreational activities and facilities, etc.  Print out the article, read it thoroughly, staple it to the back of this page, and answer the following questions.  When you are finished, please hand it in to the librarian (either Ms. Backman or Mrs. Shaw) by the end of the period today.  This article critique is worth 4 points on your PE average.

Long-term Medical Make-ups

40 pts.=1 month or 10 PE Classes

 

BASIC PROCEDURES

  1. ALL Students MUST GO to the school LIBRARY for the DURATION of their ASSIGNED PHYSICAL EDUCATION PERIOD.  There is NO group work, student is to complete the project ALONE!  Failure to report to the library and sign in will result in a CLASS CUT!

  2. Locate the BLUE PHYSICAL EDUCATION BINDER IN THE LIBRARY and SIGN IN UNDER YOUR Physical Education teacher. 

  3. Choose a book that interests you-it must relate to physical education, sports, nutrition, health, or fitness.  Please choose a book on the topic that is most interesting to you because this will be what you will be reading daily.  You CAN’T TAKE THIS BOOK OUT OF THE LIBRARY!

  4. DURING EACH CLASS you will read 2-3 chapters AND TAKE 3 minutes to complete the ‘Reading Log’ worksheet DAILY!  HAND IN THIS LOG SHEET DAILY, LEAVE IT IN THE FOLDER!

  5. After you finish the book, complete the ‘Reading Record Chart’ worksheet.

  6. Finally, write a 3-4-page report using the information from your Reading Logs and Record Chart. Your report needs to be in paragraph form, 12 pt. Font with your name, your teacher’s name, class period and days you have class on top of the first page!

  7. Your paper will include the following information:

  8. a.     1-2 page summary of the book, including main characters, themes, highs and lows within the piece. 

  9. b.    1-2 page of personal reflection of the material you read.  What have you learned?  What did you like?  What didn’t you like?

  10. c.     Conclusion

  11. You must hand in the assignment (this packet and your report together) to Ms. Backman or Mrs. Shaw at the end of the period on the day that your paper is due.  YOU WILL HAVE 10 CLASSES (1 month) to complete this assignment.  This paper is worth 40 points on your quarterly P.E. average (4 points a day x 10 days = 40 points).

 

 ***IMPORTANT….DO NOT PLAGIARIZE OR COPY ANY PART OF YOUR PAPER!  THIS WILL LEAD TO DISCIPLINARY ACTION WITH THE SCHOOL!!!!!!!!
