Home Page
Welcome to the High School Physical Education home page. As physical educators, we focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle and maintaining healthy fitness levels. We also strive to expose students to as many different sports and activities as possible, giving them many options to choose from. In doing so we hope that our students will not only enjoy PE class but that they will also want to participate in these activities outside of school and after they graduate from high school in order to maintain this healthy lifestyle.
Currently, students in our PE classes have the option to choose which type of activities they would like to participate in (based on the level of fitness and competitiveness). We separate these activities into groups, and offer 3 different options every period.
The A group consists of highly competitive team sports, like football, soccer, and basketball. They utilize the sport education model, where every student has their own role/responsibility (coach, captain, score keeper, official, etc.). At the beginning of each unit, they draft new teams, come up with team names and designate who will perform each role. Next they spend a few classes developing skills and strategies for game play as a team. The remainder of the unit consists of tournament play that leads to a championship game to designate the winning team of that particular sport unit.
The B group is less competitive and plays some team sports and some individual sports, like volleyball, badminton, project adventure, etc. This group focuses on skills and lead-up games. By the end of each unit students will participate in mini tournaments and game play.
The C group focuses mainly on fitness-related activities, like Pilates, dance, weight room, etc. These students strive to improve their own personal fitness levels and lead a healthy lifestyle in and out of school.
