RUBRIC

All students will be graded using a rubric in physical education class.  Each day of PE class is worth 4 points.  Students are graded on their punctuality, attitude, effort, and dress/participation.  If all of these expectations are met for that day, 4 points are awarded.  It is possible to receive anywhere from 0-4 points per day.  For example, if a student is late to class without an excuse, he/she will lose a point for that day.

PARTICIPATION

Students must dress appropriately for PE (sneakers, t-shirt, sweatpants/shorts, etc.) AND participate actively for the entire class period in order to receive full credit for that day of class.

GRADING POLICY

If a student is absent from school, he/she will lose their points for that day, so 4 points will be subtracted from their average.  If a student does not participate (taking a "0"), he/she will lose 7 points for that day.  Students will be allowed to make-up (and receive full credit for) all excused absences and two "0's" per quarter during after school make-ups (10 laps for an absence and 20 for a "0").  The schedule for make-ups is posted outside the physical education offices.

MAKE-UPS

Current events articles can be used to make up class points that would be deducted from their grade for all excused absences (i.e. home sick, Dr. appointment, meeting with guidance/social worker, suspensions, or medical excuses).  Students may complete ONE current events worksheet per absence.  The completed article worksheet is worth 4 points.  This information is located here on the left side of the the page under Current Events Articles.

EXCEPTIONS

Exceptions:  Students will not lose class participation credit for the following reasons:  school field trips, music lessons (1 per quarter), or guidance/social worker appointment (1 per quarter).  If a student has more than 1 music lesson or guidance/social worker appointment per quarter he/she will lose credit for that day and it will need to be made up (only 1 excuse per quarter is allowed).

SEMESTER CLASS

Since PE is a required semester class, students will receive a grade for the 1st quarter and a grade for the 2nd quarter.  Their final grade for the semester is an average of the 2 quarters and must be above a 65 in order for them to pass and receive full credit for the class.  If their grade is below a 65, the class must be retaken during a subsequent semester.

Each student must take and pass a total of 8 PE classes during their 4 years of high school in order to graduate (1 per semester).

ATTENDENCE/GRADING CARD

Here is a copy of our attendance card.  We use this to keep track each student's attendance and grades throughout the semester.
