MHS Exchange Students
Consider hosting or studying abroad!
Find out how you can spend a year abroad!
Mohonasen High School welcomed Rotary International exchange student
Maxime Bultot during the 2006-2007 school year. Maxime hailed from Liège,
Belgium, was sponsored by the Rotterdam Sunrise Rotary Club, and was
placed with host families in the Mohonasen District.
Students at Mohonasen also have the opportunity to study abroad through
the Rotary Club. MHS students can apply to spend a school year living
and studying in another country. Rotary International offers one of the
oldest and most respected study abroad scholarship programs in the
country.
The Rotary study abroad program is one of the few true scholarship
programs available to American students. Unlike other study abroad
programs, there is no tuition. Students pay only for their airfare and
about $500 in fees to defray the administrative expenses of the
all-volunteer Rotary program coordinators. Scholarship recipients
receive a monthly allowance from the Rotary club while studying abroad.
A general interest meeting is hosted by MHS French teacher Mrs. Macko in
room 6 each year in late September/early October. A representative from
the Rotterdam Sunrise Rotary Club is on hand to answer questions about
the program and distribute applications. The meeting is publicized
through morning announcements and flyers. Students interested in
learning more about studying abroad should stop by room 6 to speak with
Mrs. Macko, and plan to attend this meeting.
